The Tree of Life: Preaching from the Bible’s Wisdom and Poetic Literature

This module will introduce students to the books of Job, Song of Songs, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes as part of the Bible’s wisdom literature.

  • We will consider basic overviews of each book and explore how these type of books work as texts.
  • We will ask what does it mean to teach and preach them, as well as how do they work within the canon in biblical theology?
  • These parts of the Bible offer wonderful nourishment for us in a perplexing world and soul-food in a painful world: we will show why and how it is the pastor and preacher’s calling to show the glories of their riches for God’s people.
  • The module aims to delight us with these parts of Scripture in order to be able to delight those we lead and care for pastorally.
